Message from Mrs. Ahart
Dear Wesley families,
I am eager to welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year. This is my third year as the principal of Wesley School and my 15th year in District 4. The past year and a half have been so challenging with the pandemic, but I could not be prouder of our attitudes and accomplishments. Despite the stressors put on families, teachers, and students, we continued to see students make academic gains, mature, and develop perseverance. Our technology skills and communication improved beyond imagination and we learned to be more creative, flexible, and appreciative.
Strong family engagement has always been a critical part of student success at Wesley School. Parents are a child’s first teachers and important role models. Every parent can help their child to be prepared and responsible in school, regardless of their educational background and the language they speak. Opportunities to connect include email, Facebook, Twitter, and Remind, along with attending school events as much as possible. Please be sure to read the weekly S’more newsletter that I send on Friday mornings. You can click to translate this into nearly any language. This will always contain the most up-to-date information about upcoming events and important reminders. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or your child’s teacher at any time with questions, concerns, and suggestions. It is also important to stay informed about what your child is learning. Your child’s teacher will keep you updated, but you can reach out to share if you notice your child struggling with the content or to discuss strategies for practicing at home.
This year, we will enhance our school-wide focus on social emotional learning. Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (P.B.I.S.) program will continue supporting students’ social emotional and behavioral needs this year. We will continue teaching students behavioral expectations in multiple formats including videos made by teachers and students. The PBIS team will implement a school-wide anti-bully focus, which will begin with an interactive virtual assembly in the fall. Classroom teachers will also begin teaching universal, classroom-based social emotional lessons to their entire classes almost every week this fall.
Due to the pandemic, some of our routines and procedures may be modified during the year. As guidelines change, we will be flexible in adapting them and proactive in communicating this information to you. As always, please contact me if you have questions and concerns. I will always do my best to assist you.
I am beyond thrilled that our students are all returning in person and can’t wait to see the progress they make during the 21-22 school year. Thank you for your part in this learning community. I’m looking forward to another wonderful school year!
